The City of Love as it is also called is situated on the Seine river, in the northern part of France, in the heart of the Ile-de-France region.
This city has one of the largest population from Europe with a total of more than 12 million inhabitants.
2. How to get to Paris France
There are many ways to get to Paris, depending on your hometown. Trains, buses, cars and planes, all go to Paris.
2.1 Getting to Paris by plane
Around the city, there are two main airports: Charles de Gaulle and Orly.
The largest airport is Charles de Gaulles which is located 30 kilometres away from the city centre, in the town called Roissy en France.
Charles de Gaulle airport France
Most of the international flights land to Charles de Gaulles. It is the main gate to the world!

Trains leave every 15 to 30 minutes from Terminal 3 and in about 40 minutes you reach the city centre.
Taxi is the most expensive way to travel from the airport to the city centre. A ride is around 60 euros, depending on which part of Paris you want to go to.
The second-largest airport in Paris is Orly. It is located in the town with the same name, 18 kilometres away from the city centre.
Here, land many international companies from all over the world: Air Caraibes, Air France Hop, Corsair International, EasyJet, etc.
To get from the airport to Paris France you can take also a taxi, the bus or the train.
The rides are shorter than the ones from Charles de Gaulles mainly because the airport is located closer to the city centre.

With Thalys, you can also go to Amsterdam or Bruges! In less than 2 hours you can reach your final destination without having to get up the plane!
And the list could go on! What I can tell you for sure is that Paris is a city with great connections around Europe by train!

A great thing is that you can travel from the UK to France by car using the Eurotunnel. In about 3 and a half hours you cross the tunnel and arrive in France from the UK.
One more thing I want to tell you when speaking about cars! You don’t need a car if you plan to visit Paris! Leave your car in the hotel parking space and explore Paris on foot or with public transport.
2.4. Getting to Paris France by bus
All the major cities from Europe are connected via buses. And things are the same when we discuss about Paris.
There are multiple bus stations spread all over the city in which arrive buses from other french cities and even from other countries.
Bus Paris
The bus ride might be the cheapest way to travel but for sure it is the most time consuming of all.
I personally don’t recommend you to travel by bus. Instead of going by bus, why don’t you take the train?! It is cheaper than plane tickets but reliable and comfortable!
3. Moving around Paris
Let’s start with the beginning! The City of Love is split into 21 arrondissements, each of them offering a different perspective over the city!
The best arrondissements and which I recommend you to visit are:
- 1st Arrondissement where there are located most of the attractions of the city,
- 8th Arrondissement where you can find Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysees and
- 11th Arrondissement for those interesting in a vibrant nightlife
The best way to move around the city is by using public transport. It is cheap and efficient.
Bear in mind that the buses, metros and commuter train system or RER are divided into 5 zones.
Champs elysees in Paris
Tickets bought are valid for both buses and trains and can be bought from the stations and designated kiosks.
There are many bus stations spread all across the city, so it is impossible not to have one close to your hotel.
1 to 5 days cards are also available at ticket selling point including the ones from the airport.
There is also the Batobus! This is a boat service on the Seine with 8 stops along the Seine river. You can buy a one-way ticket, 2 days ticket or for the whole year.
Pick the one which suits you most!
Another great option to explore the city is by bicycle. Paris is pretty flat, so cycling around is not very difficult.
According to the official reports in Paris are more than 24.000 bicycles and more than 1.800 bicycle parkings! So, it should not be very complicated for you to find a bike in Paris France!
4. Best time to visit Paris
Each month of the year is a great time to visit this wonderful city, but the best time to visit Paris is in September and October.
The beautiful colours of the autumn amplify the romance of the place! At least this is what I found out on my own!
Many consider July and August and generally summer the best time to go, but I disagree!
First of all, summer is peak season. Everybody goes to Paris! The city is full of tourists, the queues at the main attractions are huge and the prices go up!
It is difficult to find good accommodation and to pay a reasonable price for a meal at a decent restaurant!
Paris Restaurant Eiffel Tower
Fall has a special vibe! The crowds are gone, the landscape is more picturesque and it is a good moment to discover the Parisian charm!
On the other hand, winter is cold and windy! It might also snow a little bit and the days are short! You don’t have enough time to explore the city! And trust me! There are a lot of places to explore!
I know that some of you think about spring as the best time to go to this city but I don’t agree! Yes, the days are long and warm but there are not that charming as the autumn days!
