Getting to Amsterdam city centre

From where is Amsterdam airport located you have four main ways to get to the city, all of them available 24 hours/ 7 days a week:

  • Train
  • Bus
  • Shuttle
  • taxi
  • Car

Train

One of the best ways to get to Amsterdam Centraal Station is to take the train from the terminal’s central hall, under Schiphol Plaza.

The train journey from the airport to the city center lasts for 15-20 minutes and it costs around 5.5 euro.

Stay safe while you travel

  • medical safety abroad
  • medical assistance including COVID-19
  • emergency medical evacuation
  • trip interruption -up to $5.000
  • travel delay - up to $100/day

Apart from these trains which transport tourists in the heart of Amsterdam, there are direct trains that connect the airport to various destinations from the country like, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Leiden, or Delft.

Bus

Public buses run frequently between Amsterdam and other cities.

For example, Bus 397 or Amsterdam Airport Express and bus N97 Niteliner (nightline) go to Amsterdam city center.

All the buses depart from bus stops B15-B19 located inside the Schiphol airport.

Taxi

Taxis might seem the faster way to get to the city but actually, the journey lasts about the same as the train journey to the city center.

But if we talk about the price, things change as taxis are more expensive than the trains, although they will use the meter.

By the way, check to see if the meter is working before taking the cab if you don’t want to pay much more than the actual value of the journey.

Car

For those of you who plan to explore the Netherlands countryside, we recommend you to rent a car and pick it directly from the airport.

You can prebook online the car you want to hire or you can rent it directly from the airport.

I personally don’t recommend you to rent it directly from the airport as the prices might be higher and if it is a really crowded period, you might not find anything to rent when you get to the office.
