A vibrant and cosmopolite city, Amsterdam has a special place in my heart. It is the most famous city of Netherlands and one of the most visited places from Europe.
It is famous thanks to its active nightlife, Red Light District, beautiful buildings and nice museums.
Amsterdam is home of the biggest flower garden from Europe, called Keukenhof.
Keukenhof Garden TULIP general information
Keukenhof is the hottest point of Amsterdam when flowers are in blossom.
Everybody wants to go there and take a photo of the colourful fields of tulips.
And it’s no surprise! The landscape is incredibly beautiful!
When should we go there?
I guess these questions are asked by every person who wants to see the tulips in blossom.
Obviously, spring is the season of the year when we should visit Amsterdam for tulips, but spring is a little too general when we speak about the best time to see tulip during a city break or a holiday.
We cannot stay in Amsterdam for 3 months waiting for tulips to bloom.
So, the best we can do is to visit Netherlands and Amsterdam at the right moment.
Let’s not forget that the flower blooming process is determined by weather and is a natural phenomenon, something which could not be controlled by people.
From year to year, the blooming period varies with a few days or even a week.
The best indicator regarding the time when you should visit Amsterdam to enjoy the tulips is the opening of the Keukenhof Garden.
Keukenhof GARDEN HOLLAND Opening period in 2021
In 2021, Keukenhof Garden will be open from 20 March to 09 May. So, anytime during this period is a good time to see the tulips in blossom.
COVID-19 Important info: Due to COVID-19 Pandemic there will be a maximum number of visitors allowed per day in the park and the Keukenhof Tickets will have fixed time slots per day.
I don’t think I have to tell you that the Park will be very busy during that period.
So, be prepared for lots of people running for the best place to take the perfect photo.
Try to ignore them and enjoy the landscape.
The gardens are really beautiful when each flower is in blossom. Each year, around 7 million flowers are planted in Keukenhof.
The flowers have different colours making an even more eye-catching view.
So, that is why the best time to visit Amsterdam for tulips is the period when Keukenhof is open.
Still, I would say that March is still a little bit too early to see an increased number of flowers in blossom. It is a little bit too early!
But Dutch people thought of everything! To be sure the blossoming show is incredible and lasts for a high number of days, the flower bulbs planted in the garden are combined when they are planted.
The locals plant a mix of early blossoming and late blossoming types of tulips in order to get the perfect picture.
This is the safest way to have tulips in blossom from such a long period of time. When a tulip fades another one is in blossom.
