Rhodes Greece is located on the south part of the Greece mainland, in the Mediterranean Sea, and is the biggest and most important of the Dodecanese Islands.
It is also known as the Island of the Knights and has a very interesting past with a rich history thanks to the strategic location of the island.
The island is famous for its beautiful beaches and interesting and well preserved ancient ruins spread all over the island.
A top thing which makes from Rhodes Greece a popular attraction among tourists is its great weather.
The island has a Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and mild winters with a few rainy days.
As a general rule, all over the year, the temperatures do not drop below 7 degrees Celsius and never goes over 35 degrees Celsius.

Summer weather in Rhodes
Summer is from June to August and is considered to be peak season. Everywhere you go you’ll find crowds and noisy tourists. The prices go up and the restaurants, bars and hotels are working at full capacity. This is the time of the year when everybody wants to be in Rhodes.
The hotels are working at full capacity and if you want to get a good price you have to book in advance.
Faliraki beach is one of the most wanted places during summertime. So, why don’t you book in advance and get the best price-quality ratio?
In the area, you will find many restaurants and bars, not to mention the beautiful beach! It is one of the best beaches on the island!
The weather is just perfect for the beach: the outside temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius and the water temperature is about 25 degrees Celsius.
There are 0 days with rain! From morning to evening, day by day, the sun is shining brightly!
The main problem during summertime is the Sirocco wind, a Sahara wind which can boost the temperature with almost 10 degrees and because of the dry air the people with respiratory problems might have difficulties when they breathe.
But you don’t have to worry! Sirocco wind storms don’t last more than a few days! This is the time of the year when Rhodes weather is great for swimming and beach.
Autumn weather in Rhodes
Autumn lasts from September to November.
The days are still sunny and warm enough for the beach, especially if you plan to visit Rhodes at the beginning of autumn.
The crowds are already gone and it’s the perfect time to enjoy the island and discover its beauties. The prices of the accommodation, food and rent of a car have dropped.
That is why I consider September as well as May one of the best time of the year to visit Rhodes.
The average temperature during autumn time is 21 degrees Celsius, with maximum temperatures of about 25 degrees and minimum temperatures might drop to 14 degrees Celsius during night time.
There might be a few days with rain, but don’t imagine it will rain constantly. The most common rains on the island are thunderstorms followed sometimes by moderate rain which might last for a few hours.
The water temperature decreases constantly from one month to another. If at the beginning of September the sea temperature is still warm and perfect for a bath having around 24 degrees Celsius, by the end of November the water temperature drops up to 19 degrees Celsius. A little bit cold, but still good for a dip.
Rhodes weather in winter
Winter lasts from December to February. It is the wettest and coldest period of the year.
Most of the hotels are closed during this time of the year and the tourists have long gone.
The days are shorter and colder with an average temperature of about 13 degrees Celsius.
The number of rainy days increases. Actually, January and February are the wettest months, with over 15 days of rain each.
The seawater temperature drops significantly, up to 14 degrees Celsius.
It is not the best time of the year to visit Rhodes, nor the best time to take a swim.
Because of the high number of rainy days, you cannot explore the island and its wonderful places.
Definitely you should think better if you plan to visit Rhodes in winter. We advise you to reconsider your position.
Oh! Some hotels might be open for Christmas and New Year Party and there might be organized trips to celebrate these two moments of the year. So, if you are interested in spending New Year or Christmas abroad, Rhodes might be a very good option. But for bathing and exploring, it is not what you might be looking for.
Rhodes weather in spring
March, April and May are considered to be spring months.
The days are sunny and the precipitations decrease up to a few days per month in May.
Like I said earlier, May and September are, in my opinion, the best time to visit Rhodes because of the good weather, low prices and a low number of tourists.
The average temperatures during springtime are somewhere between 17 to 24 degrees Celsius and the water temperature gets warmer from one day to another. In May the water temperature might rise up to 20 degrees Celsius.
It is a great time of the year to explore the island, its ancient ruins and beautiful attractions.
Why don’t you rent a car and combine the relaxing days at the beach with the great time spent exploring the island?
You can start your day exploring the island, then grab a healthy lunch and relax at the beach or at the pool from your hotel?!
We recommend you get a car because the attractions are spread all over the island and there is no public transport to reach some of these incredible places. And renting a car is the cheapest way to explore the island while having the mobility and freedom so much needed!
