Rhodos Greece is one of the favorite destinations for European tourists because it has an exotic touch and it is very close to Europe!

Depending on which country you come from, it might take you up to five hours to get to this wonderful island by plane.

Getting to Rhodes by plane

Rhodes is one of the top European summer destinations. So, during peak season, I mean from June to August or even September there are many charters from all over Europe who land at Rhodes International Airport Diagoras.

There are regular courses between Rhodes and the main European cities: London, Paris, Dublin, Moscow, Vienna, Frankfurt, Roma, Brussels and the list might go on.

Airlines companies like Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, Aeroflot, Condor, Easyjet, Lufthansa have a charter and regular flights from their countries to Rhodes.

TUI airlines have many planes flying to Rhodes from different European countries. TUI travel also has many beautiful hotels around the island where you can relax and enjoy your holiday!

Hundreds of England, Italian, German, Russian citizens, and many other nationalities get to Rhodos thanks to these airline companies and spent here great holidays!

There are regular charters all summer but you need to book your tickets in advance if you want to get a place on a certain plane.

If you are from outside Europe and want to visit Rhodos, you might take a flight to a European city and from there take a charter.

Or, I have a better idea! Take a flight to Athens, Greece capital. And from Athens take an Aegean Airlines plane and fly directly to Rhodes. In about one hour you reach this wonderful island by plane from Athens. But, again! The planes are full during peak season, so book in advance!

Here is a travel tip if you fly with Aegean Airlines to get to Rhodos Greece

Usually, by the end of January, Aegean Airlines launches a very attractive promo campaign and you can get tickets at very good prices! This is how we flew to Rhodes with less than 150 EURO per person from Bucharest!

Outside the peak season, the number of flights decreases and there is only one company that operates flights all year round to this airport. I am talking about the Greek national airline company, Aegean Airlines.

Aegean Airlines has direct flights from Athens and Thessaloniki all year round. The flight time to Rhodes is about one hour and the services on board are really great!

You even have a snack and drinks included in the ticket price! And if you follow my advice and buy tickets when there are promo prices, you will get not only a beautiful but also a cheaper holiday on this island.

For those of you who have time and want to feel the real greek vibe, we recommend you take a trip by ferry from Athens to Rhodos.

Get to Rhodes by ferry

This is the most authentic way to travel around the Greek islands. This is the way our grandparents used to travel. Don’t be surprised if on the ferry you will find a lot of older people and a lot of students!

You know why?! Well, it is very easy! They have time but don’t have a lot of money! And the ferry is the most suitable transport for them!

A journey from Rhodos to Athens, to be more precise to Piraeus which is the Athen’s port, lasts for about 17 hours. And most of us don’t have this time to spend on a ferry when there is the other option: one hour by plane.

There are regular ferries from Piraeus to Rhodes which leave Piraeus in the afternoon, according to the scheduler sometimes between 1 PM to 6 PM.

The prices start from 50 EUR per person for the economy seat and from 90 EUR for a cabin bed where you can sleep all the way to Rhodos.

Don’t get off the ferry at the first stop, because you will be on the wrong island! What I am trying to tell you is that there is not a non-stop ferry from Piraeus to Rhodes.

There are multiple stops until you reach your final destination Rhodes. Most frequent stops are on the following islands: Kalymnos, Kos, Patmos and Leros.

There are also ferries which have a longer route until they get to Rhodes. If you choose that ferry, then you should know that on your way to the final destination you might have some stops on Santorini, Crete or Mykonos.

Always check the route and the timetable before you buy the tickets!

You can also reach Rhodes from Turkey. Yes, I know it is another country but no worries! You can do that!

There are regular ferries from Marmaris, a Turkish town to Rhodos. The prices start from 30 EUR per trip and might increase to 50 EUR for a round trip on different days.

The journeys are usually early in the morning or late in the evening! They are planned in such a way that during the day you visit the city and by night time you will be back in your hotel having dinner and enjoying a glass of wine.

Beware! Turkey is a non-EU country, so if you want to visit Marmaris then you need a passport! You cannot enter Turkey with your ID card.

Getting to Rhodes is simple and accessible for everybody! You can reach this wonderful island by ferry or by plane, whichever is more comfortable for you!

Rhodes is a wonderful summer destination and around the island, there are many interesting attractions.

If you plan to explore the island, its wonderful beaches and interesting ancient ruins, then renting a car might be the best option for you.
