Visit Rotterdam Netherlands is the second largest city of Netherlands.
We heard and read a lot about this beautiful city but each time when we planned a vacation we chose other locations to go. One day, we found by mistake very cheap airline tickets to Amsterdam. So, we decided to buy the tickets and to make a quick itinerary in Netherlands. It was a very inspired decision. The country is way more beautiful than we imagined and Rotterdam is a cool city.
Once we arrived in Rotterdam Netherlands, we were fascinated by the city’s architecture
We landed at Amsterdam airport and took a train from the airport to Rotterdam. It is a 45 minutes ride. The transportation system is very well developed and punctual. It is very easy and accessible to use it.
We decided to stay at Hilton Hotel Roterdam , and we wrote a short review based on our own experience, and you can read all our impressions here: Hilton Rotterdam Hotel .
The Rotterdam train station is very modern and beautiful! It is located in the heart of the city so you can take a walk to city center.
Once we visit Rotterdam city, we were fascinated by it’s architecture, by the Markthal and by city transportation.
De Rotterdam: got its name after one of the original ships on the historic Holland America Line, was completed in 2013 becoming the Netherlands biggest building. It houses hotels, offices, restaurants and residencies in its three stacked building-block towers. This “vertical city” was designed in a way that if you view it from a different part of the city, it will take another identity shape.
Erasmus Bridge: also known as ‘The Swan” due to its interesting shape, was designed in 1996 by Ben van Berkel architect. It spans over the Maas river having a lenght of 800 metres becoming a city symbol.
There are so many reasons to visit Rotterdam Netherlands !
Our advice is to rent a by bike and explore the city by bike! In your route do not forget to include on your Rotterdam things to do list Cube Houses, Erasmus Bridge, Euromast Tower, Roterdam Zoo the indoor market called Markthal.
At the indoor market you can taste local foods and wines at very reasonable prices! It is an experience you should not miss!
As you might know Netherland is famous for its windmills. We took the opportunity and visited an authentic village with windmills located very closed to Roterdam Netherlands called Kinderdijk.
