This was our first trip to The Maldives. We usually go to Bora Bora and French Polynesia but wanted to try a different part of the world. We are so glad we did! We spent the first 10 days of our trip at another resort and ended with 8 days at Gili after recommendations from fellow travelers on Trip Advisor. We LOVED our first resort and we were nervous that Gili wouldn’t measure up! It totally did!
…..
We fell in love with Gili! The first day or so I was skeptical as I was comparing it to other resorts, but I soon realized you can not compare apples and oranges and the full spell of Gili took me over! The colors of the lagoon, the villas, the island, and the staff all combine to make Gili so dang special. I know people question the noise of planes due to the proximity to Male, but it really didn’t bother us. Yes, seaplanes go over fairly regularly and there are some other planes coming and going as well but we did not mind at all. It all added to the experience of Gili! If you are looking for the best snorkeling or house reef, Gili probably isn’t the resort for you. If you are looking for a resort that is unique, close to Male, is utterly relaxing, has a fabulous spa, is on crystal clear water with a million variations of the color of blue, wants to spoil you, and has some incredible staff…the Gili is perfect for you! I honestly miss it so much❤️

Superb resort! A gem in the Maldives! An ideal combination of R&R, exceptional amenities, food and service and sports facilities in a luxury setting embedded in a very nature-friendly environment. Outstanding staff and excellent personal service by our Mr Friday Mifzal

As i write this review i am nervous i Am not going to be able to express how amazing gili is. While we were there, there were multiple times we googled best hotels in the world and didn’t understand how gili wasn’t on some of the lists because it is truly just such a spectacular place.
We were there for our honeymoon and got to stay in a crusoe residence over the water. This was literally a house in the middle of the most beautiful ocean. We were skeptical staying in one of these at first because we were unsure how long we’d have to actually wait to get picked up by boat to go eat/go to the main island, but we would call and within no joke 2 minutes the boat was there waiting for us! The villa was just so beautiful and everything was so well thought out we couldn’t imagine a more magical villa for our honeymoon (it was seriously soooo cool).
Everytime we went for breakfast/lunch/dinner or just a drink at the overwater bar we were greeted by a minimum of 2 people who would take our orders and ensure we were happy. We have to give a shout-out to BOBO who made our experience at the over-water bar so fun and he always knew exactly what we’d be in the mood for. He was so attentive and knowledgeable about all the different drinks and the large menu and the everyday changing menu it was really just so impressive. By the end of our stay it felt like our day wasn’t complete unless we went to the bar to say hi to him. Also when I talk about the over-water bar, it is the most beautiful and comfortable setting ever, something i wish for everyone to be able to experience one day.

The most amazing festive time at our favorite Maldivian resort with fantastic food, lots of fun activities, and outstanding service. Special thanks to our butler friend, Arthur, he made our stay smooth and comfortable, he was thinking of everything we needed and was planning all the practical necessities instead of us – always with the biggest smile! Thank you Arthur! Also special thanks to Joseph who gave the best tips about dining and experiences on the island, and took care of us the kindest way in the restaurants! Superb team, and special resort, we will be back!

3. Soneva Jani

Soneva Jani is one of the most luxury resorts in the Maldives. It takes 45 minutes to get there by seaplane from Velana International Airport.

Soneva Jani Maldives blends in the landscape with its muted tones of purple and green and its beautiful alleys from reclaimed wood that connect the villas with the common areas.

In 2021 Soneva Jani extended its accommodation capacity by opening the luxurious Soneva Chapter Two.

The new villas look exactly like the old ones, but the bungalows have different furniture and a nicer view.

There is also a new fitness area, an Ayurvedic spa, and a yoga pavilion.

Some are very simple and some are very luxurious. They are all designed to show how beautiful the area is.

The most special part of the villas is the retractable ceiling in the most expensive huts.

You can also go from your bathroom straight to the private lagoon.

One of the best hospitality experiences we have ever had. Soneva Jani is so romantic and every moment was memorable. Their staff goes above and beyond for the guests. The Cinema Paradiso was a must experience!

Claire F from US
Soneva Jani is absolutely beautiful, as you can tell from the pictures, but it is also has the most thoughtful and kind staff. Our barefoot butler, Adrian, juggled so many things with our big family to keep everything running smoothly. I was amazed at the care and effort he put into setting up dinner on my birthday. He even surprised us with an in-villa screening of a movie we had been talking about re-watching, complete with little movie tickets, sodas and water, and boxes of popcorn. All of the other staff were amazing as well! The dive guides, Echo and Vincent, made our diving trips incredible, and we ended up doing more than we originally planned. The marine biologist on staff, Meral, lead a great dolphin cruise and snorkeling trip, and she was always really great to talk to—about marine biology or anything else! I also love how sustainable the resort is. They are clearly very responsible about reducing their carbon footprint and promoting a sustainable lifestyle. Relatedly, they are building a turtle rehabilitation site on the island, which I think is a wonderful thing to do, and I’d love to go back when it’s done

4. Six Senses Laamu

One of the most remote luxury resorts in the Maldives, Six Senses Laamu can be reached after a one-hour plane ride from Male International Airport and a short speedboat ride.

At Six Senses Laamu Maldives you will discover paradise with breathtaking sceneries, a relaxing atmosphere, and a very colorful and interesting marine world, with fishes, coral reefs, manta rays, and of course reef sharks.

Six Senses Laamu 80

The hotel is far away from people and cities. This makes it a good place to go to if you want to relax and stay away from noise or pollution.

Guests are encouraged to walk barefoot and there is no casual outfit required for dinner, even it’s a luxurious hotel.

The island resort Six Senses Laamu Maldives offers 72 overwater villas and just 25 beach villas with a simple design, wood furniture, and good quality amenities.

The water villas come with an outdoor shower, which is the best thing I have ever experienced.

For each villa, there is someone called a “guest experience maker” or you can just call him a butler.

The things that our guests like the most are being able to snorkel right outside their villa and the world-class spa. You don’t have to pay extra for the snorkeling experience.

And at the spa, there are lots of different types of massages and treatments. The people who work there are very good at what they do.

My husband and I rarely return to the same location – we both agreed we simply must return here! The beauty of the Maldives was elevated by our experience here. We were encouraged to go barefoot and it helped us feel connected to the earth. They emphasize sustainability, and is nestled within nature left it as undisturbed as possible; be sure to take the Sustainability tour!
We stayed in one of the overwater villas – loved stepping off our deck directly into the ocean to snorkel where the waters are teeming with beautiful marine life. We even had an eagle ray one morning circling the waters around our villa.
All the food was exquisite. We did the Lobster BBQ, where I had lobster prepared at least 5 ways; highly recommended. Leaf was in a class of it’s own. The menu changes daily and is planned based upon the day’s catch and available ingredients, the food quality and freshness is outstanding.

Michael D from New York, US
We spent such a magical week in paradise at Six Senses Laamu and could not have been happier with everything: its natural beauty, outstanding accommodations , fantastic food, lovely spa, and the most attentive service imaginable.
Special thanks to our most amazing butler (gem) Abdulla who took such fantastic care of us at every step, always giving us the perfect balance of privacy and attention.
It was a long trip for us to get there from the US but the travel was absolutely well worth it.
Highest recommendation!

Christian R from New York, US
We just finished our third visit to Six Senses. We didn’t know what might’ve changed since our last visit in early 2020, and I’m so happy to say that it just keeps getting better. The reef is still in fantastic shape thanks to the efforts of the staff biologists (and of course the support from the hotel), and all things we’ve come to love about the resort are still there, as good or better than ever. The dive team, the surf team, the ocean activities team, all the kids’ services and the attention to even the smallest detail, it’s all amazing. Yet again we really feel this is by far the best resort in all the Maldives. When we left, our daughter said “this is my favorite hotel in the whole world.”

5. Four Seasons Maldives Private Island at Voavah, Baa Atoll

The Four Seasons Maldives Private Island at Voavah is one of the best luxury resorts in the Maldives.

It is located just 35 minutes away by seaplane from Male International Airport, inside the Unesco World Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll.

This is definitely a place you should spend your next holiday!

The traditional Maldivian architecture and the chic interiors are perfect for relaxation.

You can also see the Indian Ocean from each corner of your villa.

The quality of the services at Four Seasons Maldives Baa Atoll is amazing and the entire staff is extremely well trained and welcome so that you feel pampered.

Manta service

I like that the resort has a manta on-call service. When researchers see mantas in the waters around the island, they tell the resort.

Then the resort calls you. You have 30 minutes to get your snorkeling equipment and go to the speedboat.

The speedboat will take you to where the mantas are.

Other great services from Four Seasons Maldives Baa Atoll   which you definitely have to try are the spa services (and here I recommend you an ayurvedic massage and an ayurvedic consultation with a specialist who will give you useful advice about your diet and lifestyle.

There is also a Marine Discovery Center on the site. This is a place where we take care of turtles that have been hurt.

We try not to have too much contact with them so that we don’t influence their natural behavior.

If you are wondering where to eat on the island, I want you to know there are a lot of different options.

There are international, Asian, and Maldivian dishes as well as Moroccan, Armenian, and Lebanon flavors.

Imagine the perfect Four Seasons experience, the ‘Golden Rule’ at its highest level, the most idyllic and picturesque island, every minor detail thought of in advance, the abundance of delicious food, and every wish met.
Our dietary requirements (Kosher) were met to the highest standard, far better than many established Four Seasons properties in large cities.
Chef Axel Godefroid is a master at his craft and never ceased to amaze.
Restaurant and bar manager Eddy always went the extra mile.
Cafe Landaa and Blu staff were great!
The reception staff, especially Ayya, were always a step ahead of our needs.
All in all, the resort, the managers, the chefs, the accommodation, housekeeper, restaurants, spa, the dive and marine staff to the buggy drivers and butlers – all without fault.
I don’t know why anyone would choose any other property in the Maldives.
The FS sleep experience is incomparable – we have the beds at home.
Visit the Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru, fall in love, and don’t forget to book their seaplane.
See you again very soon!

Well we have nothing but wonderful things to say about this property. We were relocated from a sister property that was not exactly what we were looking for, for our honeymoon. Upon arrival to the Landa G we knew this was going to be an experience to remember. We were there over Christmas and to say it was spectacular is an understatement. The staff was so friendly, we felt at home right away. Shout out to our wonderful villa butler Mode for making our room extra special. He is a true artist and takes a lot of pride in his work and making every decoration and detail perfection. Sandeep the restaurant manager pulled off miracle after miracle for us, helping us book a few experiences very last minute, which was tough to do with the Christmas celebrations just a day away. Justin at the restaurant was always super attentive with us and spent time telling us all about the property and recommendations. Finally, Ivan the hotel manager was unbelievably kind and thoughtful in every way. We always felt like he was looking out for us. We were in an over water villa that was a true DREAM and worth every penny. From our experience at another property, we know that not all over water villas are created the same and the ones at Landa G are incredible in every way – spacious, well designed and curated. I highly recommend opening up a bottle of the Landa G specialty drink (the red one) and making a spritz out of it with the Louis Roeder champagne. It’s divine!

INCREDIBLE STAFF, INCREDIBLE ACCOMODATIONS, INCREDIBLE FOOD, and one of the most amazing spots on all of the planet. We can’t say enough about the staff, led by the GM, Nitin, Zach and the incredible F&B, Spa, Water Sport teams. They all made our stay spectacular. We have traveled the world and this is the best Four Seasons staff (they are all really good, some better than others) we have ever experienced. Thank you soooooo much Team Landaa Giraavaru!

After a 40-minute ride on a seaplane from Male International Airport, you will reach the St Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort.

The food is good and high quality. For breakfast, you can have eggs Benedict with yellowfish tuna and lobster omelet.

For lunch and dinner, there is an extremely varied menu.

My favorite place from the island is the Decanter, the underground wine cellar and my favorite event was the 5-course degustation menu with wine pairing.

We spent a wonderful week at St Regis. Our favorite part was the wonderful service from start to finish from our housekeeper Nashid to Katie our Butler and the spa, the food was superb (some of the best around the world), and the snorkeling/diving is the best we have ever seen. We were suppose to be in a pool OWV but got upgraded to a two bedroom overwater pool villa- due to a medical emergency on island – we didn’t have same view and a smaller plunge pool but we were able to invite friends to join us in paradise for a week. We loved having an amazing reef right off our deck to explore every day. Sunsets were amazing.

Thomas K from Pennsylvania, US
It was a gorgeous resort. Weather was incredible – highs in the upper 80s and lows in low 80s. Felt like we had the whole island to ourselves. Serene. Our over the water bungalow was very roomy and private. We enjoyed the private pool and lounging on the deck. We also spent several days enjoying the beach which had great service.
The whale bar was awesome. Enjoyed many sunsets there.
We kayaked – free – a couple of mornings. We snorkeled by the water sports area. And also right out our bungalow. The resort provide free snorkel gear. Take advantage of the blue water hydrotherapy. Decently priced. And really relaxing.
The dinners were great. Our butler made reservations and shuttled us to and from. Everything was super easy. Relaxing enjoyment is the theme here.

Hussain A, from Illinois, US
Without any doubt, the one of the best hotels worldwide. We spent 5 days in the hotel and will definitely come back due to the amazing overall experience. Accommodation as well as dining opportunities and offered activities are simply spectacular.
We have travelled to more than 140 countries, visiting mainly 5* hotels and resorts however for the first time were completely blown away by the service. Our butler, Abanoub, was amazing and went above and beyond when it comes to the birthday surprise. For the first time ever we have experienced butler to actively communicating and engaging with us consistently to ensure he is able to meet our needs. He tailored every aspect of our stay at the hotel still offering a warm, relaxed, yet refined ambiance with a sense of place.
We loved our morning chats with Imad and Jenif during breakfast and their readiness to accommodate every breakfast request we had:) Hats off St. Regis Maldives for training your staff on that level.
Thank you!

Photos are real! Service is Next Level.
This is the most beautiful serene place we have ever been! After our arrival coconuts, they took us by Golf cart and first dropped off my wife and kids at the Villa so they can relax and settle in while I was brought to the front desk to complete Check in for our 10 night stay!
The service here is top notch. The beauty of this island and the set up of the 2 BR water villas could not be much better. The beach villas are perfect and modern. The only thing i would suggest to the hotel is to fully update the water villas. They are older style but still gives the perfect over the ocean feel.
If i could give this hotel 6 stars i would. Dont believe i have ever said that before. Definitely Paradise!

Wanderawr from Los Angeles, US
Once we arrived to the resort I could not have been more impressed by the hospitality and service. All the staff we had been in communication with via e-mail regarding our wedding and covid issues were there to greet us when we disembarked the seaplane. I finally had faces to the dozens of back and forth e-mails over the months. They also said it was unfortunate we had to cancel our original bookings, so they were happy to upgrade those of us who had originally booked water villas back into water villas. Not only did they put us back into water villas, they further upgraded us into the Superior Water Villas with pools. I was over the moon with excitement!
The weather was perfect all but one day during our stay and our wedding went smoothly. We had a beautiful beach dinner reception following the ceremony and had lunch at Ithaa the next day.
I could not have picked a more perfect place to have our wedding, not only because of the beautiful resort itself, but because of the amazing staff that went above and beyond to make it happen despite the setbacks.

Nicole D from Los Angeles, US
My husband and I recently stayed here for five nights and had a truly, memorable time! We travel quite a bit, and it was so nice to not have to worry about anything during our stay. From the seamless pick-up at the airport, to the float plane, to our arrival at Rangali Island. We are Hilton Gold members and used points to book a Beach Villa room. We stayed in room #114. It’s located on a side of the main island where the water isn’t as pretty necessarily (more darker shade of blue), but there was always a nice breeze on this side, which was nice to have on those super hot days. The room itself, was HUGE and spotlessly clean — we really loved having the outdoor shower. We were greeted in the room with a bottle of red wine and some delicious homemade marshmallows. The hotels grounds were absolutely beautiful! We would grab our towel (and beach-bag that came with the room) and walk around the island, grabbing a lounge chair in a different, beautiful spot everyday. We tried three different restaurants during our stay. We ate a couple dinners at Vilu, which is the more casual restaurant — but located directly on the sandy beach with an awesome view of the sunset every night. We also ate at the Sunset Grill one night, which had great food, but we had to sit inside because of a storm, and because of that, the atmosphere was a bit noisy because they cook right there in front of you. Our favorite dinner location was at Mandhoo Spa Restaurant. It’s located on a very quiet part of the island, and the atmosphere was incredibly relaxing, also the food was delicious!

The hotel has been created by the famous Peia Associati architects and its design was inspired by the world around the island.

The villas for example resemble some turtles that come out from the water, while the jetty gives you the impression that you are on a boat and everything is ready to go out on the sea.

The rooms at Westin Maldives are simple, spacious, and extremely beautiful with one, two, or three bedrooms and some of them come with private pools.

What I liked most are the stunning outdoor shower, the quality of the amenities, and the views from your villa.

You definitely have to book at least two nights on the overwater villas as these are the largest of all luxury resorts in the Maldives, Baa Atoll area.

We had an unforgettable experience at a most beautiful resort. Our over-the-water villas were very spacious with nice deck with private pool, lounge chairs, dining table and chairs, and outdoor shower with phenomenal views.
I wish I could remember all names of staff because each of them were so accommodating always with a smile. Raj kept our
Mimosas flowing, Atheik our butler made sure everything we needed was there including arranging a wonderful speedboat ride to a private island with a picnic lunch and all amenities, Solomon, manager, Paul, who was such a joy to visit with and always making sure our restaurant times and room service was perfect, and of course the spa attendants, Jolly, Rath, and Kruddey were just exceptional! We loved the spa so much we went 3 out 9 days there!
The gym was great with plenty of equipment and a view. The restaurants were all great! Island Kitchen had an abundant breakfast buffet and chefs always inquiring if there was anything special that he could make for us..having plenty of green chilies and ghost pepper sauce for us since we like spicy! Sunset Bar has an amazing sunset view with great selection of bar foid..sliders, nachos, quesadillas, etc. Loved The Hawker with delicious pad Thai and other street food in such a great beach setting. The Pearl was more exclusive restaurant with amazing seafood, sushi, and steak..several courses with beautiful view of sunset.

We recently had the most wonderful stay at the Westin Maldives. It exceed our expectations. As a Bonvoy Ambassador for Marriott, I travel often and can say without question this was one of the best stays ever. So much so I’m returning in 2022.
Kudos to the Ibrahim and the entire staff but special shout outs to Miqdad (the ultimate host), the amazing culinary skills of Chefs David, Robaldi and Mac and the service of Hussain.
The overwater villas with pool are truly the way to go as you sit on your private deck watching the sunrise or sunset.
Also thanks to Rhys and the entire team for our snorkel excursions where we swam with turtles and the sunset dolphin cruise.
I truly cannot say enough about our Westin Maldives experience other than it was truly Heavenly.

My wife and I spent six nights here in October 2021 and had a lovely time. We were grateful to receive a complimentary upgrade to a fantastic overwater pool villa (room 103) on account of my Platinum Elite status and low occupancy during our visit. Note that this villa does face the north and therefore gets a bit of seaplane and boat traffic, but otherwise feels very private. Although we visited toward the tail end of the rainy season, it was only stormy for the first day or so, and was mostly sunny with a mix of clouds and showers for the remainder of our stay.
Highlights of our stay included breakfast each morning at Island Kitchen, snorkeling around the island (although the reef is rather bleached, it was still teeming with sea life) as well as on the manta ray snorkel excursion (saw about a dozen or so!), taking a discover SCUBA course, happy hour at Sunset Bar (selection of $8 cocktails each evening from 6-7pm), special Indian and Middle Eastern meals prepared by Chef Gaurav, Japanese breakfast prepared by Chef Ed, the Vietnamese promotional dinner at Hawker, and simply lounging around and reading on our villa deck and at the pool.

My husband and I were hesitant to book this resort because it was so new but after viewing reviews trailing in and the overall look of the resort we decided to book it. From the moment we booked the room (Sunrise Overwater Villa) it was an amazing experience. We decided to book the speedboat transfer and when we got there we were so impressed with the boat! It was extremely comfortable and we didn’t have to wait at all. When we arrived at the island there were several team members waiting for us including managers, we specifically remember Alejandro because of how friendly he was. We also met our Aris Meeha, Gena! From the moment we met Gena she was absolutely incredible. She helped us with anything and everything we needed during our stay and she was always in a great mood and happy to help us. If you ever stay at this resort, I hope you are able to have her as your Aris Meeha.
The resort overall and the rooms is absolutely incredible, and it’s a bonus you are able to visit the island next door for other restaurants/ beach clubs. The only thing the resort has to work on is that we noticed at one restaurant specifically (LaLocanda ) the service isn’t as great. You need to call the waiters to take your order and sometimes even remind them about things you’ve ordered and are still waiting for after a long time.

The wonderful location and fascinating architecture are only the starts. The highlight of this experience TEAM and SERVICE! Every member made us feel at home and cared to help with the utmost attention to detail and respect.
Every aspect of our experience was coordinated by our fantastic and ALWAYS available Aris Meeha Malika, she coordinated our days making sure we enjoyed all the experiences on the islands or the privacy of our villa. Alejandro kept always a closed eye, making sure our experience was flawless and memorable.
We will never forget this time in the Maldives!
Big hugs! Please picture our right hands to our hearts as we say THANK YOU from our home.

This resort was phenomenal! They hit the nail on the head and they thought of every little detail! Food, service, employees all top notch! This is not a cheap resort by any means. The food and drink prices are extremely high, but were excellent. My only complaint is that I don’t mind paying $25 a cocktail… but they were super tiny!!! A couple honorable mentions…Putu (Hendra) was the best bartender. He was so great we constantly sat at the Eau bar for drinks and food. He went out of his way to please us and couldn’t do enough for us! Dominic, Apple, Ginon were also so good to us. Our room attendants were amazing…Ahusan and Ilm! Lovely personality and my room was perfect everyday. They even predicted my bath time correctly and ran me a beautiful bath with ferns and leaves shaped like fish. What a lovely surprise when I got back to my room. It was very sad to leave this resort after five nights. When our boat transfer got back to the airport we were greeted by the nicest employee Haleem! We were having a couple issues with check in, Covid test issues and he was able to fix everything for us when he helped us check into the airport. He was one of the best things about the trip. He should be promoted. He has a ton of personality and is very charismatic! Please promote this young man he deserves a raise!! I can’t say enough how awesome he was to us and helped iron out some airport check-in issues.

10. Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi

Located quite far from Male International Airport, about a 50 minutes seaplane ride, the remote and secluded Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi is the last on my list of the best luxury resorts in the Maldives.

This beautiful hotel with luxury villas is home to the first coral regeneration project from the entire Maldivian archipelago.

The villas from Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen blend perfectly into the landscape and the materials used for building the facilities and the bungalows are environmentally friendly.

We absolutely adored the ten days we spent here. Our villa host REEHAN was fantastic. He did everything for us, told us the best snorkeling spots and took us everywhere in a golf cart. FOG was out waiter at the Raha Market and he took such excellent care of us and made certain we had everything we could wish for. MORTADA one of the chefs even prepared special meals for us. He was also a great diver. ANDREW the GM came to talk to us a few times and we always made sure to mention the staff’s attention to detail and customer satisfaction. Not one single complaint and not one thing I would ask them to do differently. This resort felt like home after only a few hours here.
