So, when is the best time of year to visit Romania ?

The right answer is depending on what are you interested in.
Each of the four seasons has its own beauty, its own places to visit and things to do.

Let’s take for example spring!

Spring: March, April and May

Spring is the period of the year when everything comes back to life! Birds are singing, flowers are blooming, the entire nature wakes up from the long and deep sleep over the winter.

The air smells beautiful, different kind of flowers perfumes the air with their smells!

The days are pretty cloudy and it is still cold outside, especially at the beginning of the spring. March is still a cold month with temperatures somewhere around 0 degrees Celsius. In mountain towns located at high altitude snow is very common in March.

In April weather is mostly cloudy and windy but the temperatures rise up to 10-15 degrees Celsius. Flowers are blooming and the farmers start to prepare their tools for harvesting the group.

Up in the mountains, the plains become greener and the wild creatures start searching more actively for food.

The best time of year to visit Romania is spring. The days are mostly sunny and warm, while the number of tourists is still low. You even might think of going to the beach by the end of May! The days are warm enough but the sea is still cold!

The prices are still reasonable, except for public holidays when everything goes crazy! The prices explode, the traffic is very intense, the quality of the services decrease. I do advise you to avoid visit Romania when is a public holiday! It is a waste of money and time!

Summer: June, July and August

Long and hot days of summer are ideal for the beach! The air temperature is pretty high so everybody is looking for a way to cool down! Some prefer to go to the beach, while others run up on top of the mountain.

It is the best period to explore the Romanian mountains and seaside. I don’t recommend to visit cities because they are very hot and crowded.

You’d better go somewhere up in the mountains, in the middle of nature to relax and enjoy the long days of summer.

Summer is peak season so prepare yourself for lots of tourists and long queue at most of the attractions. It is the holiday season for Romanians too, so expect a lot of traffic and high prices, especially on the seaside.

Just to have an idea! The prices at the seaside hotels’ triples in summer month compared with the rest of the year.

Still, if you are interested in exploring the area, the best time of year to visit Romania is summer.

Have you heard about Transfagarasan? If not, I will tell you! It is one of the most impressive mountain roads from Europe. Top Gear filmed a show on this road, that impressive it is! The only period of the year when it is open is during summer. The opening and closing of the road depend on weather conditions. So, check the road conditions and the weather forecast before you go.

The Romanian villages in winter have a unique atmosphere and most of them keep the traditions alive. If the snow is big enough you even can go for a walk in a horse-drawn sledge. Carols are heard from different houses from the villages and everybody is waiting for Santa.

Winter is also the best time of the year to try traditional food like sarmale (cabbage rolls), cozonac ( a special pastry made for Christmas), pork stew, etc.

Each season has its own charm and beauty. You know better what you are looking for.

In my opinion, the best time of year to visit Romania is late spring or early autumn because the weather is great and the prices are really reasonable.
