Is Florence in Tuscany?

Let’s start with the beginning and see where is Tuscany, if is Tuscany in Italy and then see if this wonderful city is in Tuscany.

This amazing area is indeed in Italy! It is one of the 20 provinces which form Italy.

The province is located in the central part of the country with a total surface of 23.000 square metres and a population of 3.9 million inhabitants.

Toscana, as it is called in Italian, is famous for its wonderful countryside with its beautiful hills, lush vegetation and huge plantations of vineyards.

This province is considered by many to be the birthplace of Italian Renaissance and home to one of the best art museums in Europe: Ufizzi Gallery and the Pitti Palace.

Toscana is also famous of its wines! The famous wines Chianti, Morellino di Scansano , Vino Mobile di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino are the most famous wines from the area.

These are good quality wines, with great flavours and a unique bouquet.

There are a lot of things to do and see in Toscana so book at least 4 days for Florence and  Siena and 1 day for Pisa to see the leaning tower and the Piazza dei Miracoli.

Not to forget about the magnificent hill towns of Arezzo, Cortona, Lucca and San Gimignano more secluded towns which keeps the Italian traditions still alive.

If you don’t like the idea of moving each day you can set your camp in the beautiful city of Florence and from there take day trips to the surrounding area.

Take a short train ride between Pistoia Prato or between Arezzo Siena to explore the Italian life and for the next day take a tour of Val D’Orcia which the richest valley from Tuscany region.

Oh, I have almost forgotten to tell you about the Apuan Alps, which are the mountains located in the northern part of Tuscany for which you definitely have to rent a car to have the freedom and mobility to explore the whole area as it is incredibly beautiful.

For art lovers and Leonardo Da Vinci fans, this is the place where you should go as the small town of Vinci is the place where Leonardo was born on 14 April 1452.

Where is Florence?

Now, let me tell you a few words about the capital of Tuscany and the most important city in the area.

Firenze, as Italians name the city, is the capital of the Tuscany province, one of the most beautiful and romantic provinces in Italy.

The city of Florence with 385.000 inhabitants is home to many artworks and architectural masterpieces.

Its historic centre is packed with many beautiful buildings and piazzas where locals and also tourists use to gather and admire the architecture while sipping a glass of Italian wine.

So, to answer quickly to your question, yes it is Florence in Tuscany!

Florence was a very important trade and finance centre during medieval times and one of the wealthiest cities from those times.

The city was governed by the powerful Medici family and between 1865 to 1871 it was the capital of the Kingdom of Italy.

The city is a hot point for many tourists each year and the historical part of the Florence was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982.

Florence is also an important place in the fashion industry. Global Language Monitor ranked Florence in the top 15 fashion capitals from the whole world and Forbes described the city as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Among the most important attractions of the city, I would like to name the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Ponte Vecchio and Uffizi Gallery.

The famous sculpture of „David” by Michelangelo, „Annunciation” of da Vinci or „The Birth of Venus” by Boticelli are just some of the most important artworks which could be seen in Florence.

The view from the top of the Florence Duomo over the city is breathtaking but the main downside is that you need to spend a few hours on the queue to get to the top.

We prefer to book a skip the line tour and to use that time to visit other beautiful attractions from the city.

It is a one and a half hour tour with a guided tour of the Duomo and the northern terrace of the Duomo’s rooftop.

You will have to skip the line access to this magnificent place and gain more time to enjoy your trip in Florence.
