Another way to get to Bran Castle is by using public transport and train. From Bucharest, you can take the train to Brasov.

If you want to go with public transport it is a little more complicated.

From Bucharest airport, you have to take the train or the bus to get to Bucharest North Station.

From Bucharest North Station you have to take a train to Brasov.

It is a 2 and a half or 3 hours ride.

Once you get Brasov train station you should get out and take a bus to Bran. The bus reaches Bran station from Brasov in about 30 minutes.

The main advantage of public transport is that it is inexpensive, but with public transport is pretty complicated and you waste a lot of time.

Car is much more efficient and comfortable and is the best way to go to Bran, where is Dracula’s castle located.

A short history of Dracula’s castle

The medieval castle was built in the 14th century when Luis I of Hungary gave the permission to Romanian people from that area to build a defence fortress.

The fortress was used to defend the area against the Ottoman Empire.

Over history, the castles had multiple usages and gain different roles in Romanian history. During World War II it was transformed into a hospital.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the castle became the residence of the Romanian Royal family and during the communist regime, the medieval castle was confiscated by communists.

By 2005 the castle was transferred into Romanian Royal family property and in 2009 it was open to the public.
