Why you should not miss Sibiu International Theatre Festival FITS

Sibiu International Theatre Festival is, I might say, the most modern and interesting festival organized in the city and even in Romania.

Sibiu is one of the most famous cultural center from Romania and from Europe.

So, don’t be surprise to find out that beautiful, modern and interesting festivals are organized in Sibiu.

If you will have the opportunity to visit Romania in June then you should include in your list Sibiu and its impressive FITS.

Here are our suggestions of available accommodations in Sibiu Romania area

The date of the festival is not the same each year, but all past editions were held during June or end of May.

Grab a plane and take your front row ticket to the festival!

Sibiu International Theatre Festival

The festival was born in 1993 thanks to Constantin Chiriac and a group of actors from “Radu Stanca” National Theatre from Sibiu.

They felt the cultural potential of the city and they decided to make from Sibiu an important point on the European cultural map.

The festival and its agenda grew constantly each year.

Now, International Theatre Festival Sibiu reached its 26th edition and the count still continues.

The theme of 2019 edition was The Art of Giving.

During the 10 days of spectacles, FITS reached some impressive numbers: 540 events, 75 places where spectacles took place, more than 3300 artists and more than 73 countries participating.

Impressive, isn’t it?! For me it was fascinating to take part at such an event!

Book a ticket in advance if you want to be part of this experience!

The tickets are sold out very quickly! People from all over the world come to watch the spectacles!

Before choosing a spectacle check to see where it take place.

Because there are so many places arranged for spectacles all over the city it might be stressing to run from one place to another.

The places for the shows are very diverse: churches, theaters, local airport, on the streets, in museums, in courtyards of emblematic buildings and so on.

Scenery is an important aspect in a play, so the places for the shows from Sibiu International Theatre Festival were chosen paying a high attention to details.

I was very impressed not just by the places chosen for the plays but also by the street spectacles. The shows and the artists were really great!

On outdoor shows, I liked how theatre combine with dance, contemporary art, juggling and acrobatic numbers.

You know what I like the most at this festival? That it is impossible not to find something to be delighted by!

No matter how old you are you or which your preferences are regarding art and culture, I am absolutely sure that you will be delighted by FITS.

I was pretty skeptical before going! Before leaving home, in my mind was something like this: what a big deal?!

There are some plays and many actors that you have to run from one place to another.

Crowded places and a lot of noise! Why did I buy tickets!?

But once I got there I forgot about everything! I was so captivated about what was happening and about the atmosphere that I did not realize how the time was passing!

And between the plays, there was nothing more relaxing then eating traditional food in traditional restaurants around the center square or enjoying a cup of coffee on a terrace near houses with medieval architecture.

I did not regret that I decided to go to this festival! It was a really nice surprise for me!

Although it is not the first time when I visit Romania I am still fascinating about this country! I visit Transylvania each time when I have the opportunity because I like that place very much.

The Sibiu International Theatre Festival is just another beautiful event to which I took part.

I am very sure that next year, when the next edition of FITS will be ready I will be ready to go again and have another 10 days cultural treatment!
