Unveiling the Secret of Los Angeles Cloud Forest, Costa Rica

Los Angeles cloud forest Costa Rica is one of the best-kept secrets of this tiny country located in the center part of the country, near San Ramon town, close to Monteverde cloud forest reserve.

The protected area is located on the land that was once owned by former Costa Rican President Rodrigo Carazo.

This beautiful area is located just 1 and a half hours drive from San Jose and is hidden from tourists’ eyes, so it is one of the last places from Costa Rica that amazed you with its untamed nature and secluded feeling.

Very few tourists have ever heard about it and fewer chose to visit it so you have high chances to have the whole reserve just for yourself.

Los Angeles cloud forest in Costa Rica is located at 2.300 meters above sea level and has about 1.950 acres of protected forest.

Inside this unique habitat live more than 350 species of birds and many animals and thousands of plants, trees, and orchids.

I like to say about this cloudforest that while walking inside the forest you spot more birds and animals than tourists, that secluded it is.

Hummingbirds, toucans, and even the rare and beautiful resplendent Quetzal can be spotted hidden between the canopy inside of the Los Angeles cloud forest reserve.

Best time to go

The dry season that lasts from December to April is the best time to visit the Los Angeles cloud forest in Costa Rica.

Bear in mind that cloud forests have their own microclimate and even during the dry season it might rain in the afternoon so take with you a raincoat.

The wet season from May to November is rainy, windy, and cooler and some parts of the trails might be extremely muddy and slippery so it is more difficult to explore the forest.

Accommodation

Everybody who visits the Los Angeles cloud forest is tempted to stay at Villa Blanca cloud forest as it is located in the middle of the private reserve.

I personally like more secluded and hidden accommodations, so that is why we chose to stay at The Retreat Costa Rica, which I must say was the best accommodation from the entire trip.
